This week we take a moment to review a whole-foods-based meal replacement called Warrior Meal.

Item: Warrior Meal
Price:
$29 USD (450 grams)

Retailer: Warrior Meal
Purchase: www.WarriorMeal.com

Buying protein and ‘meal replacement’ powders can be a real gamble these days. Head to any supplement store and you’ll generally find dozens and dozens of different brands, all aiming to the be the ‘best supplement’ and ‘market leader in protein powder’.

With the fitness industry growing each year, many brands are trying to capitalise on this by selling cheap products at a high cost. The problem is, most of us aren’t scientists or doctors, and don’t have the ability to test the powder to see just how good it is. Many times, we simply have to take a product on face value, or try to do as much research as we can on the product and brand.

Some obvious things to avoid when buying protein powders are: high levels of sugar, fillers, gums, added salts, viscosifiers, heavy metals or unwanted chemicals.

One product we have come across that ticks all the right boxes is the whole-foods-based meal replacement Warrior Meal.

According to their website:

“Warrior Meal takes protein powder to the next level. A drinkable meal that includes everything you need to optimize lean muscle, and reach your goals. 19 grams of egg white + hemp protein. High quality ingredients like sweet potato, quinoa, chia, and coconut. Unlike products like Soylent and Huel, Warrior Meal has no artificial sweeteners or flavors. Dairy, soy and gluten free. And it mixes easily in water and has a delicious velvety smooth flavor. It’s perfect for when you want to eat healthy, but don’t have the time.”

We decided to put Warrior Meal to the test to see if it lives up to its claims. Here are our thoughts on the supplement and whether we think it’s a worthy purchase:

The Good

Ingredients: Warrior Meal is made from high quality ingredients including coconut, sweet potato, chia, hemp, quinoa and egg white. Unlike other powder supplements on the market, Warrior Meal is only made with whole foods. There are no artificial sweeteners or flavors, gluten or dairy. And from what I can see, the protein sources (egg white and hemp) are much better sources than what other brands use.

Meal Replacement: As the name suggests, Warrior Meal is not just a protein supplement, it is a meal supplement. Functional fitness athletes need more than just protein to fuel themselves. High intensity workouts leave your body in desperate need of nutrients. Warrior Meal not only has a high level of protein per serve (19 grams), but also has a great balance of good fats and healthy carbs that gives you clean energy.

Good Cause: $1 from each bag of Warrior Meal sold goes to benefit veterans struggling with PTSD. So not only are you looking after your body with each purchase, but you’re helping a good cause.

Taste: I must admit, I quite like the taste of Warrior Meal. Many supplements and powders that are free from any artificial sweeteners often have a poor taste. However, the Warrior Meal was very easy to drink and tasted great.

Easy to Mix: The Warrior Meal supplement was very easy to mix. I never had to go overboard with stirring or mixing and never found any clumps. It is also very easy to mix in with milk or almond milk if you’d like to add extra flavour.

Price: The Warrior Meal supplement sells for $29 USD for a 450 gram bag. Each bag contains 10 meals, so you’re only paying $2.90 per meal! Compared to some other meal replacements, that’s quite reasonable and affordable.

The Bad

Not Enough Servings: As mentioned earlier, each bag of Warrior Meal comes with 10 servings. I had one serving a day and fund the bag empty roughly 10 days later. It’s a very small gripe, but maybe it would be better to have more serves per bag, so do you have to continually buy more.

Flavours: I quite like the flavour of Warrior Meal. However, if you don’t like the taste, there isn’t many alternatives for you. Warrior Meal comes in just the one flavour (Vanilla Bean) for the time being.

Conclusion

Overall, I quite enjoyed the supplement.

From a nutritional standpoint, it ticks all the boxes and is made up of high-quality, natural ingredients, free from any artificial chemicals and fillers. It has a great blend of proteins, fats and carbohydrates which is great for any functional fitness or CrossFit athletes looking to re-fuel their body.

In addition, I found it to be quite affordable, easy to drink and has a flavour that I really enjoy!

If you’re after a decent meal replacement supplement to add to your diet, then Warrior Meal is a worthy purchase.
