Running Away With $30K

I keep hearing things about “The Richest 5K Run.” To be honest I wasn’t really sure what it was all about or if it even had anything to do with CrossFit. I decided to take a moment to check it out, so here are the details in short…

Essentially it is a 5-kilometer or 3.11 mile running race with no other CrossFit components. Run and your done. Nothing unexpected, no box jumps, no o-lifting, no squats or burpees, just a traditional 5k running race.

You can compete as an individual or in teams with a minimum of 5 women and 5 men. The event is presented by CrossFit and will be held at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Atlanta, Georgia on November 19, 2011. There will be a total of $30,000 prize money divided in the following categories.

Male Individual

  • 1st place          $6000
  • 2nd place         $3000
  • 3rd place         $1000

Female Individual

  • 1st place          $6000
  • 2nd place         $3000
  • 3rd place         $1000

Team

  • 1st place          $10,000

Boys 12 years and under individual

  • 1st place prize package from Reebok
  • 2nd place prize package from Reebok
  • 3rd place prize package from Reebok

Girls 12 years and under individual

  • 1st place prize package from Reebok
  • 2nd place prize package from Reebok
  • 3rd place prize package from Reebok

I love the fact there is no qualifying time or other credentials required to enter this race. Simply sign-up, show up and the fastest in that division on the day will take home the prize money. I also love the fact that regardless of sex, the prize money is the same. An added bonus for the parents out there is that there is even something thrown in for the little ones.

It is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a great running pedigree to possibly take home some considerable cash and prizes.
