3 Little Known Ways to Lose Weight

When it comes to getting fit, two activities easily come to mind: exercising and dieting. While these are the most common practices for achieving a healthy lifestyle, there are also other things that people can try to achieve the results that they desire. In this article, we present three little known ways to build muscle or lose weight. 

Eat (healthy) fats

Those who are fighting to get fit seem to be at war with fat, but it’s important to understand that not all fats are bad. Just as there are good bacteria that help with our bodily processes, there are also good fats that help energize us.

Now, where do we get these good fats? Nuts and oily fruits such as avocados are good sources of fats that our body needs. You can add them to your diet, replacing some oils and fats from processed foods. 

Take in (good) bacteria 

In the preceding section, we mentioned good bacteria. Our bodies need them and they act as a host to many beneficial microbes. In fact, digestion, which is arguably one of the most important bodily processes, will find it hard to run its course without the help of good bacteria.

Probiotics are live microorganisms that we can use to improve or maintain the balance of our digestive microbiome. Aside from aiding in digestion, these probiotics have also been found to have a role in weight loss and overall weight regulation. Particularly, studies show that the balance of two families of bacteria – bacteroidetes and firmicutes – has something to do with being overweight. Obese individuals seem to have more firmicutes and fewer bacteroidetes. 

With that being said, taking probiotics can be a good way to maintain a healthy weight. Yogurt and supplements are great sources of these live microorganisms. However, anyone who wishes to take probiotics should see their doctors first. They may have allergies that foods such as yogurt may trigger. Have more (but smaller) meals 

The best way to lose weight is to control your food intake. In order to lessen your appetite, the size of the stomach must be reduced. One way to do this is to keep your meals smaller but more frequent (eating about every three hours). This way, the body gets the right amount of food without forcing the stomach to stretch just to accommodate few but bigger meals. Over time, the size of the stomach adjusts to the amount of food that it usually processes, and this may lead to an effectively reduced appetite. 

When it comes to improving your overall health, these tips go handily with proper diet and exercise. While they appear to address other health issues, they actually also have roles to play in weight loss.
