Back pain is quite common to both men and women and can occur at any time. Sometimes you can experience back pain after an activity like washing or even while washing. Such pain is easily fixable. At times, there can be back pain caused by lifting heavy objects, twisting, and even muscle strain while bending. Such pain becomes common as we age because as we age our muscles tend to lose their elasticity making them prone to strains. Luckily, it is always easy to identify the pain with a certain activity making it outright to resolve the problem. Experiencing a massive case of back pain? Here’s what you need to do right away:

Go For Over-The-Counter Medication

If you were going on with an activity, it is wise to stop the activity and rush to take some medication. Analgesics like acetaminophen, aspirin, and Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and naproxen sodium, can help relieve your back pain. These drugs are available in terms of ointments, creams, and salves and can be rubbed into the skin on the part of the back where you are experiencing the pain. These drugs are highly effective and often effectively reduce most types of back pains.

Exercise

You can exercise your back to improve the strength of your abdominal muscles. Exercise can also help you improve your lower back muscles and give you immediate relief from back pain although it can also help your back become more flexible and fit to reduce your chances of experiencing back pains in the future.

Based on the information on this website, inversion exercises can also help you ease your back pain. There are several inversion exercises you can engage in to relieve back pain based on the equipment you have. You, therefore, need to have such basic equipment as gravity boots, inversion tables, inversion chairs, yoga hammocks and swings, and yoga headstand benches to do some inversions. If your back condition is delicate, ensure you get some advice from your doctor. Ensure you only exercise so long as the exercise is relieving your pain and not worsening it.

You can also do some simple stretching exercises and pull your knees to your chest repeatedly until you have some relief. Remember not to force your back to exercise if the exercises hurt. You can wait until your back is ready to exercise without pain. Likewise, you can walk for smaller distances to help align your spinal muscles which can have been twisted. As soon as you feel better, continue working as being physically active can enhance your blood flow besides making your back more flexible and preventing spasms.

Use Ice Cold  and/Or Hot Therapies

You can apply some ice to reduce the tension on the muscles where the pain is originating. This therapy can ease your pain and also resolve any inflammatory back pain should it be the cause of your pain. Use a towel while applying ice on your back otherwise, you can damage some nerve-ending and sensitive tissues. You can hold the ice against your back for at least twenty minutes until the pain resolves.

You can also apply ice on your back in intervals of four hours. In addition you can soak a towel in hot water and press it against your back. Be careful not to burn your back and cause more problems. Like ice therapy, you can use this strategy four times a day until your back pin finally disappears.

Change Your Posture

You can immediately find relief for your painful back if you lie on a hard surface as opposed to a cushy couch or bed. Hard surfaces can ease your hurting muscles and you can have immediate relief. Similarly, if you were bending, you can stand upright and ensure your spine is straight. If you were lifting an object, you can also try lifting it while you maintain your spine straight. Maintaining your spine straight can also prevent you from having back pains in the future.

Make it a habit to bend your hips forward so that you can maintain a neutral and straight spine position. Even while you conduct daily routines like brushing your teeth and when washing your dishes keep your spine properly aligned. As a long-term solution too, any time you are sleeping, place pillows under your knees as you lie on your back. Should you decide to lie on the side, place a pillow between your legs to help you maintain the natural alignment of the spine.

Massage Your Back

Commonly, the massive pain you experience on your back is caused by muscular strains. Massaging the muscles where the pain originates from can make the area receive some firm pressure which in return can facilitate the reduction of the tension and ultimately give you some relief from the pain. You can press the part gently for up to a minute in some circular motions until you feel some relief. As you do so, remember to stay hydrated as it can facilitate your recovery too.

Chronic dehydration can reduce the strength and efficiency of your spinal muscles making it difficult for you to recover. You can lie sideways or stand up as you massage your back as lying on your stomach can worsen your back pain.

Contact Your Doctor

This should be a last resort. After you’ve tried the above pain-relieving solutions and your back pain persists, please consult your spine doctor without hesitation. If your pain is disrupting your normal functioning or you have numbness on either or both of your legs, you should seek medical advice. Weakness in your legs and pain in one or both of your legs is also a factor that needs medical intervention. Likewise, if your back pain is causing you some bowel and/or bladder misfunctioning you might require emergency medical care.

If you have an abnormal fever that is coupled with back pain you also need to talk to your doctor. Your doctor can recommend surgery only if it’s necessary. This is likely to be the case if your spinal nerves and cords are damaged. If you have a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, vertebral structures, or degenerative disc disease then surgery can also be used to resolve your back pain.

A massive case of back pain can be uncomfortable. However, most of such pain can be managed at home. Know when to call the doctor so that you can receive the necessary medical attention. Physical activity and general lifestyle practices can help ease your pain now and reduce your chances of experiencing the same in the future.
