Most people struggle with bad body odor and extreme sweating, which can be quite unpleasant and unhygienic. That’s when deodorants come to the rescue. Whether you’re using a cream, gel, or roll-on deodorant, you want it to last you most of the day, so you can feel your best self.

Hack #1: Never Apply Deodorant on Clothes

While this may seem too basic to you, many individuals are making this mistake and wondering why their deodorant is not working. Deodorants are formulated to be absorbed by the skin for them to work effectively. 

Therefore, applying deodorant on the underarms of your clothes won’t help you make it last longer. You must always apply your deodorant directly to the skin after bathing or showering.  

Hack #2: Start in the Shower

Many people believe that sweat makes them smell bad. In reality, it’s the odor-causing bacteria on the skin that, when mixed with sweat, leads to body odor. You surely can apply several layers on your armpits, but if you don’t target the odor-causing bacteria, your deodorant won’t last long and work at its best.

That’s why it’s better to start with a clean canvas by taking a shower or bath using an anti-bacterial shower gel, soap, or body wash. This will ensure that there are no bacteria on the skin, and when you apply the deodorant on it, it will smell lovely for long hours.

Hack #3: Swipe it on at Night

If you’re worried that your deodorant doesn’t work regardless of applying the entire day or after showering in the morning, you should try doing so at night. Your body temperature is lower at night, and your sweat glands are less active. This allows the ingredients present in antiperspirants and deodorants to be absorbed more effectively.  

Moreover, since your armpits are drier at night, your deodorant can work even better. Hence, you should try applying your deodorant at nighttime just before you go to sleep for effectiveness. 

Hack #4: Shave Away the Fuzz

Individuals with armpit hair are likelier to have a bad odor since hair gives more area to bacteria to cling to, which can lead to a pungent smell. Of course, shaving your armpits is a personal choice, but shaving them off will be your best bet to ward off body odor.

In addition to this, shaving your armpit hair can also help your body products like exfoliators, cleansers, and deodorants to work more effectively on the skin.

Hack #5: Coat Your Entire Underarm

Most of us are in a hurry to go about our day, which leads us to not apply the deodorant the right way. You must take your time, such as an extra minute, to coat your entire underarm. Make sure that you don’t leave out any area of your underarm.

Usually, two to three swipes will suffice. If you’re using an aerosol spray, shake it well before use to mix all the contents. If you’re using a roll-on, make sure you wait for it to dry before putting on your clothes.
