Josh Golden’s 13.2 Score Rejected!

Less than 24 hours after submitting the equal best score in the world for week two of the 2013 CrossFit Open, Josh Golden has now had his workout rejected by HQ!

Golden, who finished 73rd in the 2012 CrossFit Open and 20th at the SoCal Regionals that year, now has no valid score for workout 13.2. That means he is out of contention to compete as an individual at the Regionals this year.

On Sunday night, Josh Golden topped the male leaderboard for 13.2 after scoring 387 reps in the workout. However, questions marks on the validity of the workout started surfacing after a video of it started to circulate on social media.

By Monday morning, General Manager of the CrossFit Games, Justin Bergh, contacted Josh Golden to notify him that his performance would be rejected.

The movement standards for week two state that when performing box jumps in 13.2, full extension of the hips and knees must occur while standing on top of the box. If an athlete extends their hips and knees while in the air, it will classed as a no-rep. The standards also state that the shoulder to overhead movement must begin from the front rack position and finish overhead with arms and legs locked out.

Many people who have seen the video (embedded above) of Golden’s workout believe a large number of his box jumps and shoulder to overheads did not meet the movement requirements and should have been no-repped.

As well as Golden’s score being rejected, CrossFit Grover Beach, who validated Golden’s score, will not be permitted to validate any more workouts for the rest of the 2013 CrossFit Open.

The affiliate’s athletes and team may remain in the competition, but they will need to perform the next three Open Workouts at another affiliate location or submit video.
