We’re Back!

Michael and Emma at CrossFit Madtown

Michael and Emma at CrossFit Madtown

Not sure if you have noticed but over the last fortnight The Rx Review has not been getting updated as often as it should. The reason for this is that our small family of writers have been tracing around the globe for the better half of two weeks. John went off to Europe, while Emma and I went to Wisconsin, Chicago and LA, visiting family and friends.

Though John is still traveling around Europe, both Emma and I flew back into Sydney on Wednesday morning. It has taken me a few days to get my bearings back but I think I think my body is starting to realise the difference between day and night.

During our time away we had the privilege of training at our home away from home, [CrossFit Madtown]. The box is run by husband and wife duo, Skip and Keysha Benzing and as always it was a sensational experience from start to finish. From the moment you walk in the doors of that box, Skip, Keysha and all their members make you feel like family.

On top of the sea of warm and smiling faces, the fantastic duo are some of the best technical coaches I have come across in all my years of training. Their knowledge and expertise in all things CrossFit is truly amazing and second to none.

I cannot say enough about how privileged Emma and I are to have been coached by them. If you live, or are ever in Madison, Wisconsin do yourself and favor and get yourself in there for a session. To Skip, Keysha and all the members at CrossFit Madtown, thank you for all the coaching and kindness.

Besides our incredible coaching experience with the Benzing’s and while in the US, Emma and I made sure we spent way too much money at Whole Foods, broke our Paleo diet on a daily basis, stopped into the Cheesecake Factory too many times, had numerous delicious meals cooked for us, ate too many tacos, tried the infamous Cinnabon, lived off IN-N-OUT for two days, watched the Super Bowl and made sure we came back with several bottles of our now favorite tequila, Patron (yes, there is a review coming on that).

At the same time we were flying and driving around the country we realized The Rx Review was not getting the kind of love and attention it deserved. However, that is not to say it was not on the forefront of my mind. Therefore throughout my time in the US, I made sure I picked up a variety products to test over the next few weeks and months (some paid some provided).

From Paleo friendly supplements, gymnastics rings, sandbags, parachutes, clothing and apparel to even a gas mask. I made sure I came back with enough material to excite and delight the most avid fitness fanatic for a long time to come.

So make sure you keep checking back in because over the next few weeks we plan to have as many of those fitness products tried, tested and reviewed. In the meantime, good luck to all those preparing for the CrossFit Open.

-Michael.
