Health Snack: Kale Chips

Kale Chips

Crispy Kale Chips

Being on any diet regardless if it is Paleo, Zone or simply just eating healthy, your days spent snacking on bad food in front of the television have probably become a very distant memory.

For those that miss their carefree ways, not having to overthink dinner options, I thought it useful to introduce a healthy snack alternative that will allow you to veg on the couch without compromising the waistline.

This nibble comes in the form of a leafy, green vegetable from the brassica clan, known to the average caveman as kale. Many health food/organic stores cater to the craving diet conscious by stocking kale in the form of chips. And if you’re lucky enough you can even find the snack in a select few grocery stores.

The great thing about kale chips, is the vegetable naturally contains generous amounts of vitamins A, C, iron, potassium and calcium, something I’m sure potato chips, cheezels and Doritos can’t attest to.

Another positive is that Kale chips tend to be baked, not fried and are often flavoured with natural spices like coriander.

This article would not be quite complete without mentioning taste. Ok so they’re not going to taste like your fried potato chip.  So to avoid disappointment, might I suggest eradicating all preconceived thoughts of a crispy potato chip upon consumption. Having said that, once you get used to the flavour and texture they can be quite addictive and make for the perfect guilt-free treat.

All in all they’re a great snack, and after the Superbowl weekend, I’m sure most of you are ready to try something a little different.
